Vietnam had little to do with the 1976 election. And the crosscurrents of that year are a discussion in themselves. Suffice it to say that a SEGMENT (though a large and controlling one) of the Democratic party is the old anti-American left that wanted so badly to see a punishing American defeat at the end of that war. Nixon denied them their blood-lust, and set the stage for our Cold War victory less than 20 years later. THEY are the only ones who are calling OUR side criminal over Vietnam. They have hated Nixon for their defeat with such a passion that it has clouded their political thinking frequently since that time. The American criminals of the Vietnam era are to be found in their movement, which still presents a threat to America's well-being today...

The deciding election, on the principle, was 1980, one of my personal favorite elections ever...
