You have it backwards. The Vietnam War was doomed by 1970. All the men who died after that could have been saved if we had withdrew and admitted it was a mistaken military policy. In the late 60's thing were different. But they soured fast as the Viet Cong learned how to defeat us despite our overwhelming firepower. Why do you think we no longer use such tactics. All SMART bombs from the air now then mop-up. Vietnam was a meat-grinder and we should have leanred from the French and from the Korean War it was either everything or nothing to win. Sometimes winning means retreating though you lose some pride. Only fools rush into sure defeat. And what the hell were we really fighting for anyway?
