How can I be racist if I'm defending the need for integration? if I were racist I'd be agreeing with Strom Thurmond circa 1948. You have it backwards. GOP spinmeisters have been trying to spin this around 180 degrees lately I've noticed, claiming that it's racist against whites to give minorities a break, or that helping minorities is a racist because it shows disrespect. But neither Colin Powell nor Condi Rice would be where they are without help from government-funded integrationist policies. Racial imbalances will probably never go away for a long-long time but unless you don't want to allow minorities to vote you'd better be prepared to help them. I'm not really for Affirmative Action but even Trent Lott stated a few weeks ago that he would support it from now on. That's a debate over degrees. A little more or a little less. What we don't want are unfair abuses in the system. It's a tricky matter. But what's the option? Go back to slavery? Or give minorities a chance to compete, then prove themselves? With poor inner city schools which not even vouchers can save black kids from, they definitely could use some help from time to time. At least for the kids who really work hard. By the way there are more poor whites than blacks in this country so they need help too. It's a big question. Help them or let them suffer or try to help themselves? Well the truyth is most do need some help. At least mentoring programs. And what can we afford to do now with the balooning Bush deficits? His Star Wars funding alone could make a big difference to inner cities, but I guesss they're more afraid of non-existent North Korean ICBM's than real problems in our cities. Or even Al Qaida for that matter. And the poor minorities don't have lobbyists like the defense contractors do. Nor are they in bed with the Saudis.
