The problem with that is it seems the N. Koreans are so paranoid that they get even LOONIER when you give them what they want. Someone posted an article awhile ago that brought that up.

The big problem with North Korea is that it seems like the patient can be kept on life support for the rest of this century, all the while contaminating the rest of the hospital.

I think it's a great mistake not to have embassies or other official presence in these places.

Maybe your idea of a plethora of embassies and conferences there (would Kim Jong even allow such a thing ???) would keep them distracted enough to at least reduce the risk somewhat. It would cost a pittance compared with the billions we send in aid as it is.

And unlike Libya or some of these other places, there is zero risk of a car bomb blowing our embassy up in NK ! Nor any anti-globalization demonstrators for that matter.
