Actually, the skeeter problem is Panama (..Canal Zone actually..) was minimal while I lived there. The Panama Canal Company has had a large and effective mosquito control program continued from the original eradication program during the canal's construction. Virginia and the Carolinas are worse than the Canal Zone.

MN and AK are about the worst in the USA, both having mosquitos that land outside your tent and then discuss whether to eat you there or carry you down to the swamp first.

The "Zoto" mosquito in MN is a real SOB; a little black bugger with white bumble bee stripes around its abdomen - they are smaller than a dime, but leave a raised welt the size of a quarter on most people. I got chewed up by Zoto's one afternnon while picking wild strawberries in a field up near WhiteEarth Lake (age 10+/-). Had to get a shot in the tush from the local Doc because they made so me sick. The Calamine Lotion overcoat wasn't much fun either.

When I see a scrap tire laying around, I'd like to kick the jackarse who left it there right square in the patoot. Stupid practice, now deadly with the West Nile thing floating about.

GOoooooooooo TIREX, and GOooooooooo BMKS....!!!

John :-)
