Of course, the cheapest way to produce hydrogen gas, is from fossil fuels, as a C-H bond is easier (and cheaper) to break than an O-H bond. Which means, that the cheapest source of Hydrogen (in the future) is likely to be the Saudis (they're in a location where solar cells will probably be more efficient than North America, too).
