Is it possible that North Korea and China are working together on the nuclear confrontation? Remember the China downed US plane incident in April 2001??

I'm sure there are elements in China who have little problem with Jong having nuclear weapons.. There has been some evidence that Chinese companies may be providing equipment related to manufacturing nuclear weapons...

And these guys generally get away with it so long as their activities don't embarrass the central government, or provoke a regional crisis that threatens to destabilize the peninsula..

The question is whether Bejing's ruling central committee is aware and complicit in providing nuclear weapons equipment to Jong's regime. And if so, what types of leverage can the US, Japan, and S. Korea utilize to force Bejing to rein Jong in...

While China might be trying to create a bit of controlled crisis on the Korean peninsula in order to offer themselves as a mediator (in exchange for decreased support of Taiwan by the US), it will be a game of brinksmanship to see just how willing the Bush administration is willing to ratchet up the stakes (all-out war or pre-emptive strike), which I believe China would wish to avoid as it would gain them nothing and lose them much.
