"HSDPA is the EDGE of WCDMA."

If that's true, sell all your Q as WCDMA is doomed.

New Delhi: Reliance Infocomm plans to set up around 230 code division multiple access (CDMA) cell sites or base station transceiver systems (BTS) for its wireless in local loop service in Delhi by the end of January 2003. This was revealed by company sources who added that as of today it has deployed over 160 cell sites in Delhi. The Reliance Infocomm spokesperson in Mumbai could not be contacted despite repeated attempts by eFE for confirmation.

Industry experts pointed out that each of the cell sites used by Reliance can handle around 1500 calls at any given point of time which implies that the capacity of Reliance, with its presently deployed 169 cell sites, will be able to handle voice traffic from approximately 2,53,500 subscribers at the same time.

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, the other WLL service provider, on the other hand, has around 30 cell sites as of now in Delhi, which can cater to 50,000 wireless in local loop subscribers. However, officials from MTNL said that it is in the process of deploying around 51 more cell sites in the city. These sites, which would be deployed by January 31st 2003, would increase the capacity of MTNL to provide the service to an additional one lakh subscribers in Delhi.

The bookings for Reliance Infocomm’s limited mobility services are expected to start by January 10, 2003 in Delhi.
