Hi verdad, No, I have never had any connection whatever to Gateway other than buying these computers.

Aside to hdl, the price differential was greater in March than perhaps now. Repricing the closest current configuation would actuatlly cost me about $60 more now than last March. It involved some special price concessions on deleting the included 18" monitor (I already had nicer 19" Viewsonics from a month earlier) when the Gateway was back-ordered. Gateway reduced the concession by $300 each for deleting monitors when they added free memory, etc. They gave me the extras while disregarding the reduced monitor-free discount. They had also agreed to refund an additional 5% to offset sales taxes which I would not have had to pay with an order from Dell. There was also a screw-up when the salesperson entered my order as two separate orders possibly to get double commission as I was later told. The two identical charges tripped a fraud alert shutting down my credit card which took time and angst to straighten out. They then kicked in another concession on shipping. The whole story is even more involved but Gateway seemed determined to make this sale and keep me happy.

In contrast,a week, a month and three months earlier I had actually tried to order Dell based on their reputation. The first order was cancelled by Dell because the Turtle Beach sound card need for the THX sound system was not available for 30da or more. Then I placed the orders again, no simple task with Dell, because it priced differently depending on the path you took to customize features. When I finally had it right and OK, I hit submit. An error message told me I would have to start over and enter my order for computers separately from the flash card memories. It was easier to just delete the desktops. And so on...

Regards,
