I'm not a fan of Arafat, that's for certain, but it still looks to me as if the relation between Arafat and the Palestinians is qualitatively different from that of Hussein and the Iraqis.

True. Though Arafat has done some horrid things to the Palestinians, he hasn't yet gassed them. Otherwise, essentially the same thing on a smaller scale.

Yes I meant a "regime change" policy. I hope you wrong about the contrary reaction and I still believe that new voices are speaking out loud, time will say,

About bolstering Arafats stand it is the contrary , you have for the first time internal criticism and about the more radicals: they were under Arafats wings and now their presence is more public in detriment of Araft , I still believe that the silent majority will start the political movement to democracy,, I hope....

I didn't mean that Begin made THE peace , it was all the factors you mentioned , but I believe that Sadat ZL took that step precisely because he had a MADMAN in front of him, and on the Israeli side it is easier for a right winger to make a deal than for the left wing. ( Also remember that Arab Idiosyncrasy respects the Strong Ruler, Leader, King, Sheik or strongman)

We have a minority of fanatics in Israel and terror bolsters their position, Palestinians are not stupid, they are between the most educated and smart Arabs and they must realize that their best hope is to control terror and make a deal with Sharon, lets hope we don't get in Israel a real extreme Right wing government in the mid of a Gulf war, this kind of government MIGHT take extreme measures.

I rather have Sharon then Bibi, Sharon is a tough Soldier, He spent all his life in the hardship of Israel's Survival, all his family is in Israel and he doesn't have to prove anything to no one. He thinks of the best for his people and FAMILY, he is not a fanatic but a pragmatic.

Bibi is also an Israeli , well educated soft speaking, softened by the American life, the brother of a national hero and he is more extreme, I don't say so but I hope he doesn't have to prove something .
