There are clear laws and regulations which govern the selection process.

Political Pull, owning a famous and influential name, is not supposed to tilt the selection decision over the applications of more qualified - but less well-connected - applicants... but what process is ever totally free of politics?

(Or of the hope for future reward from patrons?)
