Re:"bleeding to death" -- agreed -- you can tell what the spin is when the big concern among the news-managers in the media are things like "gee, what a SURPRISING drop in consumer confidence!".

What B.S. Consumer sentiment has been dropping steadily, the only friggin' surprise is any slight bounce on the way down since Bush took office.

Any news we can expect for the forseeable future is going to be bad for consumer confidence, bad for the American Way of Life, and bad for the rest of the planet as well: economy, housing costs, housing starts, interest rates, costs of living including medical and energy, terrorism, war, political stability, jobs -- all are headed down in 2003 along with the stock market.

Anyone know of any positive indicators?

Maybe gold and weapons-building, those should do well in either a sunny stagflation or nuclear winter...
