The compelling symmetry of the words I heard from Spencer strongly suggests to me that you are likely mistaken. I do hope I am wrong in this. As time permits I will get a copy of his works.

In Christ, purity of the heart, honesty is a central core idea with love and tolerance. In the logic of this core is the explicit separation of the secular and God in life.

In the Old testament there are elements of this and much practical secular advice and indeed Government.

Islam later on brings political goals and schemes back into a way of life where all social pressure is brought to force acceptance.

This seems totally alien to true Christianity. Did the secularization of the Church state actually evolve in the middle ages from the example in Islam.

Yes the Crusades seem so evil, but Crusades only occured 300 years after the Islamic eradication of infidels in the middle east. The Crusades seem such a bad idea with no good intent. But what was in the hearts of men so long ago.
