I keep wondering about the same thing. Isn’t it the same as a “running correction”?

The shape reminds me of the action in Sept. – Oct. of ‘2000, when it resolved in another strong leg down. Also, there is some “symmetricity” with the action in Oct – Nov of this year, on the way up, except that the congestion was sort of “broadening”.

50% retracement of the October rally is a touch above SPX 860, where the second leg down of the recent decline will be 78.6% of the first one.
