This is nonsense. Bush's policies have split the country more deeply than I have can ever recall.

I agree the country is split, but totally disagree about why. It seems clear to me that Gore's attempted theft of the election has a lot to do with it. But there is an overall attempt on the part of Democrats to divide the electorate, and it is working (after all, to be successful, you just have to get the Democrats to support your position).

I for one grieve for America and struggle containing my anger.

I feel the same way. I'm angry that liberals will seek shelter behind fundamental American precepts while condemning America in the next breath. It is sickening. It is as though you people think you should be entitled to have it both ways. In my mind, you're American or you're against America. You can't both be against America and be a patriot.

I under stand your anger, because I have my own.

Al, just for the record, the first paragraph was mine; the second was HMALY.

Having said that, I can't agree more that there has been a dramatic split in the population. I think the events since 9/11 have tended to intensify the division instead of doing the oppposite. Americans seemingly chose to ignore the inconsistencies present in the day to day affairs of the current administration.

However, I am beginning to see a glimmer of awareness start to develop.......as evidenced by the post I made earlier today re tax cuts and the growing disapproval of them. People are seeing the cuts for what they are.......a major break for the rich.

What's particularly contentious is the attitude of people like D. Ray. I read his response to you. He has the cajoñes
to claim that Gore tried to steal the election. The arrogance believing he can deceive people by taking the offense. Any rational, decent thinking person knows that if there was any stealing, it was done by the party currently in power. I think he takes a page from his president. However, this too shall come to an end.
