You have a cherished belief in the basic humanity of man. My statements have challenged that belief, and you have emotionally reacted. You state:now we're getting into the stupidity of literal fundamentalism as related by hearsay (reported by al-Bukhaari) and followed by inhumane non-thinkers. There is an appalling lack of knowledge behind that statement. You clearly don't understand the significance of the Sunnah generally and the hadiths of al-Bukhari in particular. Moreover, you consistently try to generalize to the Muslim world from your very parochial experience. It doesn't work. I began by suggesting that you make an effort to comprehend the alien, by reading a book. Did you? No. Or you wouldn't have made the errors so obvious in your post. Try to understand. The Muslim culture is different, very different. You can't just generalize. There is more than a little touch of irony to this argument. In your ignorance you are defending a belief system that is opposed to much of what you hold most dear. To begin with, the concept of a separation of church and state is an anathema. You need to learn more about the Sharia (religious law), and it’s incompatibility with many human rights. In a righteous wrath, you accusing me of condemning an entire religious group. No. I only condemn ignorance. For the Muslims, I have sympathy. They are in a trap. A trap from which it will be difficult to extricate themselves. I have no intention of letting them pull me into their trap, or to let myself be wounded by their thrashing around. Moreover, I doubt I’ll be of any assistance to them if I remain ignorant of their nature. Sorry, feel-good multiculturalism is no substitute for knowledge. Your statements seem to imply I favor a religious war. (to base life or death decisions (religious war) upon... . Nothing could be further from the truth. I recognize that, like it or not, I’m in a cultural war. To the extent possible I would like to prevent that war from becoming a shooting war. With that goal in mind, I’ve sought to increase my understanding of those that are so violently opposed to my way of life. It is a journey that I have only begun. Rather than excoriating me, take my hand offered in friendship. Let us together explore possibilities that can lead us to a peaceful world. lurqer
