"And what to use in place of oil?"

Perhaps we can harness your hypocrisy.

Replacing oil over 15-20 years should be #1 priority, it's a national security issue but also an environmental one. A new Marshall Plan is required to invent faster cleaner ways to develop hydrogen and other clean fuels. Hydrogen is the future but so far the systems to create the fuel are too cumbersome and involve use of fissil fuels. First thing we need to do is offer massive incentives to business and consumers. This will cost less than half a war with Iraq. Then promote efficiency and (sorry folks) but tax gas-guzzlers. Can't get everything for nothing. But the rewards in the end are staggering. For onme thing no more necessary ties to the Saudis, wars in the Middle East and a drastic cut in pollution. The europeans are already doing this kind of thing. So we all need to work together. Major jobs creation here too. Right now the oil and pollutors lobby have a firm grip on the White House. Bush-cheney need to go and McCain-Feingold has to hold despite the current GOP attempt to defeat it in court. corporate soft money cannot be allowed to buy government policy again.
