I think you are exactly right about how the Iraqis would propose to fight the war with the U.S. forces. The best hope for the Ba'athists is for an extended siege, during which the American public will grow increasing fidgety and with their usual short-attention span mentality will grow very weary of the effort.

In Afghanistan, the enemy has reverted to form, becoming the phantom force that has been their stock in trade for centuries. Here's an evocative and well written report on the wasting of our U.S. Treasury on chasing ghosts:
