Even Bush and Gingrich admit hydrogen is the future.

As do I.. However, Hydrogen is not particularly easy to find in large, extractable quantities. It has to be made, usually via Hydrolysis which requires electricity. And that electricity requires energy to generate it.. Thus, the vicious circle appears again..

Nuclear power is one viable provider of such vast quantities of energy, but no one wants to live next to one (despite their proven safety record)..

Methane hydrates present one potential alternative, but we won't see them mined for decades due to the extreme risk they present if methane is released in large quantities into the atmosphere...

The Europeans are already well on their way to this goal, way ahead of us.

The Europeans have far different energy needs than the US, which is a much larger geographical area.
