>>approximately 40 million Chinese can afford a BMW

If 40 million Chinese can afford an $30,000 car, then why is China producing less than 2.5 million and importing less than 150,000 cars and trucks in 2002?

<<I spoke with the country manager for BMW -- he says that approximately 40 million Chinese can afford a BMW. >>

And by proporton, the BMW country mgr for the USA would likely say that 180 million Americans can afford a BMW.
I don't doubt that China will soon hit another speedbump similar to 1997-98, and the come-lately mo-mo speculators in Chinese and asian stocks will once again get burned.

How do folks so quickly forget?
