<<I learned the term "LOL" when I first started to play bridge.>>

My mother belonged to two bridge clubs. 8 hours of playing and she might win or lose 12 cents depending on a good day or a bad day.

My father belonged to two poker clubs and he averaged about $3,000 a year in winnings. No wonder there wasn't a "Brenda Maverick" on the series.

One of my dad's poker clubs was the Fish Club. It started during the depression with three guys. At noon on Fridays they would meet at noon at a shooting range, have fish for lunch and then play poker until 5pm.

It kept expanding and moved to Wednesday evenings where they had dinner in a private area of a nice restaurant at 6 and played poker until midnight. They put a cap on of 50 members. My father was invited to join in the late 40s when the founder of State Farm Insurance died and left an opening. Every year they did and still do have a ladies night where they rent part of a restaurant and do the full formal thing.
