The estimate of 40 million is from BMW itself -- it is not my estimate. It is roughly 3% of the population and I have no doubt that it is a good estimate. As for the number of VWs on the road, there are indeed millions of them, and until this year people had to pay cash for them. Borrowing for personal consumption will begin this year. The highway system is developing at an astonishing rate. The traffic is terrible in the cities. Motorbikes are no longer allowed in places like Beijing. For better or worse, China is in love with cars.
