My main concern is the spiking Oil Prices,
every time we get a little rally oil goes
up, and over time taht can kill off the
rally and set us up for new lows.
The cost of oil goes into every thing,
but all people seem to see is the price they
pay for gas..they don't feel it as it's passed
on in utility bills, and what it cost to
get milk to market, that is until it's to
late.
Jim

Posted on one of my office walls is a 'yellowed' full page ad I pulled out of Barron's dated August 27, 2001.

In bold print, UBS/PaineWebber declares ...

We believe the fair value of the S&P 500 at the end of 2002 should be 50% above the index's level today. That's what our Financial Advisors are talking about with their clients. Right now.

... wait a minute, let me get my calculator ...

S&P 500 ... August 27,2001 - actual .... 1179.21

S&P 500 ... UBS PaineWebber forecast for December 31, 2002 ... 1768.81

S&P 500 ... December 31, 2002 - actual ... 879.82

..... hmmmmmmmmmmm ... 1768.81 minus 879.82 ... divide by 1768.81 ... equals minus 50.3% ...

... they just missed it a little bit now, didn't they? ...

... I wonder what they are forecasting for the end of 2003 and 2004? ... <g>
