OTOH, there have always been a few RW nuts too. To be certain. In fact, the political spectrum not being a horizontal line - as some academics would apparently have it - it's more a 'U'; ceteris paribus , there's a point...and it's in the political stratosphere...where the reactionaries and radicals will essentially be ideologically aligned. And I think that on a few of these threads, we've reached that point. More humorous (at least to me) is that what drove a large number of these folks to that point is not - however they balk at the suggestion - war, terrorism, political trends, international strife, the macroeconomic picture, or any other such big picture concept; instead, the agent of their fugue is quite simply the kurtosis of the five-year trend in equity valuations. I cite: "When the average man loses his money, he is simply like a wounded snake and strikes right and left at anything, innocent or the reverse, that represents itself as conspicuous in his mind." Theodore Roosevelt, 1907 But lately there seems to have been an EXPLOSION of LW conspiracy theorists. Left and right are a matter of temporal, and personal, political perspective. The enduring fact is that a mind desperate to either (a) dispel fear or (b) mitigate responsibility will not only recognize no limits of common sense in the formulation of their sheltering delusion(s), but will simultaneously allow (indeed, defend ) completely ridiculous and nonsensical "supporting" elements to go completely unscrutinized. Mitigating, though, is the fact that they constitute counterparties of an almost Elysian ideal. :-) LPS5
