HSINCHU, Taiwan--Taiwan's Integrated Circuit Solution Inc. (ICSI) here announced a Bluetooth-enabled dongle reference design kit, based on its wireless baseband and link controller chip.

ICSI's reference design combines Universal Serial Bus (USB) plug-and-play and embedded Bluetooth functionality. This reference design includes a USB dongle PCB layout, protocol stack and profile, hardware/firmware under HCI, a testing environment for production, and debugging tools.

It also includes the company's IC9000, a Bluetooth-based baseband and link management controller chip. Complaint with the Bluetooth 1.1 specification, the chip makes use of a Turbo 8052 controller as its core design, with embedded 128-KB mask ROM and 32-KB SRAM.

“The plug-and play Bluetooth USB dongle can drive this Bluetooth market by making everyone to have Bluetooth-enabled connectivity at a very competitive cost,” said Jiin Lee, vice president of logic at ICSI, a fabless IC design house in Hsinchu.
