I just read an interesting review of the movie in Time. Although Tolkien says he didn't write it with WW11 in mind, people have been finding political connections every since it was published. This writer talks about its relevance to today; the Western democracies are the Fellowship, fighting for their existence. He thinks bin Ladin even looks like Sauruman. Since he didn't fill out the cast, I'll do it for him. I've been comparing Poindexter to Sauron's lidless eye ever since his big brother office made the news. I think the 9 Riders are Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, et al. SH is probably Gollum. You won't see Ari Fleisher until book/movie #3, appearing as the Mouth of Sauron (a nearly immortal human in the service of Sauron). In real life, as in the book, we have more to fear from Sauron than Sauraman. WR I belive Gollum got that name from Bilbo, because of the noise he makes.
