What's needed is the economic incentive, I think. But before that comes the political incentive.

In order to get the same acceleration from a car, the fuel cell system would have to produce more horsepower. This is because of the added weight that would be required for the fuel. Am I correct here?

Also there is the combined efficiency of the fuel cell auto and the power plant replaces the efficiency of the internal combustion auto.

So then, say you have two autos. Both go from 0-60 in 4.0 seconds. Both have the same aerodynamics. One is powered by internal combustion and the other by fuel cell.

How many miles per gallon of hydrocarbon does each burn?

One burns it inside the engine, the other at the power plant.

Another question:

WHY THE HELL DID THEY STOP MAKING THE GEO METRO?

Ten years ago we had a production car getting 50 mpg .. now we do not.
