But just a couple of thoughts on this: You wrote, and I agree: "Saddam is a bad guy..." From what I've learned, I've no doubt that Saddam been the kind of leader that fits many of the horrible descriptions of him. But I also suspect he's also a kind of leader that doesn't fit some of the descriptions that have assigned him. I know from past history and from experiences in other places that the U.S. seems to have a want for or a need for a 'Bogeyman' of some kind. I also know that our nation's leaders have installed a 'Bogeyman' or few in more than a few places around the world. My plain and simple view is that both Bush and Saddam should change the way they each think. As much as Bush makes him out to be a thug, Saddam probably makes Bush out to be a thug, given those characters acting on Bush's behalf whom disrupted an official polling recount in Broward County, Florida. We always hear in the American media that Saddam poisoned his own people; but we rarely hear that he poisoned his own people with the poisons we gave him. Strom Thurmond was once a real bad guy and he was spreading around a poison of a kind. He stopped spreading the poison, but did he go from being a bad guy to a good guy just 'cause he stopped spreadin' his poison? People do change. And the world stage is a big one, oftentimes requiring great change. I'll leave this with a quote from an old talk radio guy in the Boston area, Jerry Williams. He used to saterically describe politicians in a good ole' boy, madcap manner: "Hey--he's not a bad guy!" no matter how bad they were, as there were always hacks present to offer up support. In conclusion, somebody somewhere's gotta start trying to make the world a better place. One of the leaders on the world stage--take your pick--eventually has to end up being "not a bad guy" for real. Could Saddam do it? He should. But then again, so should Bush!
