Herb imo is someone you need to watch.. He has been tied to a short group in Boston.. I remember the stories he ran on cree for three years trying to bring them down... He finally acknowledged no problem and left for other stocks.

Applied Materials: $5. "It should trade at a price/earnings multiple in line with other little-growth cyclicals like paper and chemicals," the chip source says. "Applied will not grow in this cycle."

There is a whole world of consumers coming online for PCs that have never had them before, this is precisely why those Korean fabs are buying so much now even though they have "no" demand... and besides comparing applied with all its IP and a product that can't be duplicated by anybody to paper or chemicals really goes too far.

I respect Herb for his track record. I wince when I see a target of AMAT at $5 though.

I see you agree about this call. See this is the problem with this market, these bearish calls have gone over the deepend totally. I have seen technology compared to basic materials- alcoa, etc. also to railroads.. ie "we're done with the buildout no growth ever again". I need to read somebody with some perspective here. Right now we have applied in the low teens stock price. This guy says applied at $5 because it is no better than a paper stock... assuming the paper stock analogy is way offbase to the downside where is the bottom for AMAT? Maybe $10 or so which was right about the Oct lows.

edit - oh I see in later posts you discuss Greenberg's source.
