My final observation on the 90% upside issue:

On four of the 12 occasions, a major rally followed (1970, 1982, 1984 and 1991). In 1970 and 1982 the rally started right away; the 1984 and 1991 rallies took a while to get going, but lasted for years. 1970, 1982 and 1991 had already been confirmed bottoms with multiple 90% downside days.

The other 8 occasions were tops or saw gains of only another 3-7%.
