scott,
There are parts of this article that are reasoned and make much sense. The author's violently anti-Israel sentiments aside, this is a must read. I would interpet events a bit differently.
Sharon is cleaning up as many terrorists as possible while creating a victor/vanquished scenario that we have talked about on this thread. He will win an overwhelming personal victory on 1/28. Yesterday i believe i read that there were secret negotiatons under way between israel and palestine and a 53% solution proposed for an initial Palestinian state. Such a state might give the Palestinians a real stake in peace for the first time. For the Israelis it will contine to give them security, albeit probably less initially. We can only hope that Sharon becomes DeGaulle.
As far as Iraq goes, the US continues to prepare for war. It would be great if the inspectors found something but if they dont perhaps a settlement would include inspectors on the ground for a stated period of time and a gradual ending of sanctions. If something is found, Saddam should go and might in fact leave if he gets a home somewhere for his folks and a pledge of no prosecution. The Milosevec example must concern him. The open question remains as to where the WMDs are? There can be no doubt in anyones mind that at least some exist(i think many) and the ones that worry me most are the mobile bio weapons.
By the way, a peaceful outcome of all these disputes will lead to big bull market next year at least for awhile.
So if all this is done without war was Bush the bellicose Bush a genius(all or in part) as he deployed a massive force for invasion, while fueling the democratic fires in Iran, forcing the NK issue to a head and allowing Israel to take care of its terrorists before a surprise peace is reached? I invite answers. mike
