But in Pyongyang, nothing. The Kim cult has imposed more than ideology; it has imposed a whole climate of thought and behaviour. Pessimists say North Korea is trapped in an Orwellian hell of its own making. We assume evil is all loud and obvious - eating babies, burning teddy bears, and mass cult rapes and whatnot. It's hard to believe evil is really so mundane, so pedestrian. The most insidious evils aren't black chains of enslavement. They are grey wisps of thoughtless despair. Derek
