Of course I am aware of that. But as you so insightfully point out, until the Civil War. At that point the federal government (not capitalized) overstepped its Constitutional bounds and impeachment trials should have been held for many Senators and Representatives. They were not. Thus, individual and state's rights were free to be trampled in the future by the likes of Teddy Roosevelt, Wilson, FDR, LBJ and Nixon, which happen to be the most obvious examples. It led to unconstitutional taxing of individual income tax, redistribution of wealth programs, WWII "temporary" emergency taxation acts such as withholding -- payroll deductions -- which were never rescinded, etc. Sic Transit USA
