LOL! We do have a sandy beach, called Sandy Beach for some unknown reason. The sand is littered with shards of dinner ware from the mine buildings that used to be set on pilings. The sand is entirely man-made, and came from the ball and stamp mills that crushed gold-bearing rock that came from the glory hole. The glory hole collapsed when sea water broke through, leaving a big cavity filled with saltwater and mining debris. It's been completely taken over by our famous rainforest, and now except for the concrete abutments you can't see anything of the mine. We still have a lot of gold, but it isn't economical to mine at the current price. The building where I work is built on mine tailings, and except for that there wouldn't be much flat land in town. We have no palm trees. You can tell when winter comes because the kids start wearing long pants. A hot day in Juneau is 70 degrees F. It never gets above 80. This winter is pretty mild, and we just got some snow over Christmas. Sometimes we get a lot of snow. I'm grateful for the rain because you don't have to shovel it. Here are a couple of websites for you to look at. You might find some inspiration for a poem here, but there is no substitute for the real thing.

I don't think Jimmy Buffet has ever been here, but many musicians visit just to see the place and catch a big halibut.
