Disposable cell phones come to Wisconsin
15:23 EST Friday

A California wireless firm that has developed a "disposable" cell phone will begin selling its products in Wisconsin through an agreement with a state wireless carrier.

Fluent Wireless L.L.C., a unit of Cellcom in De Pere, will begin distribution of disposable/recyclable cell phones made by Hop-On.com Inc., Garden Grove, Calif. Fluent's distribution agreement also includes the states of Iowa and Tennessee.

The disposable digital cell phones cost from $30 to $40 and can be operated without a cellular phone contract. The phones include 60 minutes of phone time. Once the minutes are used, the phone can be returned for a $5 refund, or air time can be added at about 25 cents per minute, according to media reports.

The 60 minutes available for each phone expires within six months upon activation, but can be extended another six months by adding minutes.
