Consumer Reports (Feb '03) has a twelve page spread on cell phones, U.S. carriers, calling plans etc. It's focused on voice services, not data services, but is a decent overview of things from a consumer perspective - and fairly comprehensive.

A couple of tidbits: (1) VZ ranked consistently highest in customer satisfaction, although cellular carriers, in general, rate poorly compared to other types of companies that CR rates. (2) About one third of mobile subscribers surveyed would like to switch carriers, but only a few actually do, because of the lack of number portability and large early termination fees.

More evidence that number portability could make for an interesting wireless marketplace next year.
