I agree with your summary. Very few would label Saddam as a religious man, but it would seem that Islamic terrorists have been mobilized to use this type of guerrilla warfare to wreck havoc on Western interests. You did not specifically mention Saudi Arabia, which is somewhat different, but it is still a breeding ground for Islamic extremism. It should also be noted the US sells a great deal of armaments to Saudi Arabia. Obviously, this is a very elaborate chess game with potentially perilous consequences for the modern world. * * *

After that there are some observations that are correct and analysis that is,,, hmmmm beats me. Are ambiguous of reality.??? Saddam is a whack job. Saddam acts stupidly. Saddam hates America. Saddam controls vast resource wealth that are contained to prevent Saddam from getting the money. Iraq sits at a geographic crossroads of the Arab world. In parts of Iraq who knows who is in charge. The status quo leaves in place a guy who would do evil. The status quo traps resources that would generate wealth that could greatly help the Iraqi people and the entire Arab world. IF, there is a version of Islam that is enlightened or a version that is Koran light or non Moslem tolerant then... With commerce, contact and a Christianized, superset of Americanized, superset of tolerant government could create wealth for Iraqi people. Establish known law and order over the entire country. Create a seed of Christianized culture. If not aligned with other intolerant(Un Christian) Arab states weaken opec's monopoly. The war on terrorism is a war on poverty and ignorance. Secular non religious democratic governments are the best path to eliminate poverty and ignorance and operate most efficiently with tolerance. Ignorant poor people and cunning dirtbags will always be able to teach ignorant poor people the intolerant version of Islam. Otherwise decent people my be sucked in. Iraq is the optimum place to start a transforming scenario. The fact that WMD can be had by idiots with money requires defense that is fixing where stupidity, poverty and ignorance, the seeds of hatred growth. That is the post 911 reality It's easy to understand and complicated as hell to fix. Vacant liberal lefty loons need not apply.( a statement to you and not about you.)
