Bob Woodward worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence in the early '70s, reporting to Alex Haig as a briefer on national security from the Pentagon when Haig was in Nixon's White House. Haig and Woodward deny this, but his commander at the time Adm Thomas Moorer confirmed it (Len Colodny and Robt Gettlin, "Silent Coup" p.71). It's likely Haig was "Deep Throat" working for JCS against Nixon due to Nixon's and Kissinger's freezing out DOD from foreign policy military-related decisions. Woodward is therefore an interesting choice as the only reporter to make an in-depth interview of President Bush ("Bush At War"). Even more interesting is the method of releasing sound bites from the 2-1/2 hr tape of their conversation -- it would be much more revealing to hear the whole thing -- which is why it won't be released. Qualified and thorough investigative reporters who aren't tainted by intelligence agency service are by odd coincidence not seen in mainstream media, i.e., Greg Palast, Michael Ruppert et al
