No partners. Alliances shifted from discard to discard. When one person started to get ahead, the other two would try to gang up on the one... Until one of them started to gain on the other... POP! goes the alliance.

Correct about Joker's = 50 pts, 2's and ace's = 20, Red 3's = 100, black 3's thru 10's were face value, face cards were 10 pts. Something else about black 3's, too; I think they could not be picked up from the discard pile. But I'm not sure. Does anyone remember? I do remember dealing 15 cards each in 3-handed. And in 4-handed, 13??? My parents and I also used to play to 5,000 pts and eventually 10,000 pts instead of the prescribed 3000(???)pts. If it's a big deal to anyone, I'm sure there must be a website or two about Canasta. There might even be an online game or two somewhere on the internet.

OK, it's your deal.
