Hello, John. Long time no talk.

Yes, of course. But that was not my point. In Afghanistan, the Bush administration has simply skipped out on the role of helping the Karzai administration rebuild the country; and, just as important, apparently hasn't assisted other countries or the UN to do so.

And Iraq is quite different from Afghanistan. If the Bush folk do the same, as I said, without addressing the other extant issues in the ME, and doing as Friedman worried about today in his column, treating Iraq as simply a gas station, then the blowback is going to be something else.
