CB,
You did win that bet. But this cleaning process is far from over. With lots of high-tech jobs moving to India and manufacturing to China, all these States running huge deficit, Fed deficit going to grow from 500B last year to who knows what limit, we will grind slowly to misery.

Hello CB, See original post on thread and link through to various views made in fun, concerning <<what kind of wealth issue>>. These views seriously guide my investments over the eons in Internet Time Subject 53084

As to your bet, I do not remember making any bets with you, though I do remember vividly and perhaps wrongly that you might have said (a) there was no problem with debt, and (b) economic recovery in fourth quarter 2002 (or was it hitting the bottom in third quarter 2002, I have to check later).

<<Not a meaningful prediction without specifics>> Really? So then my predictions must not help me to make or keep wealth, and if so, I must change. Sadly, I do not know how to do better, only do my best, which is not the best in the world:0)

<<You sound like a TV psychic>>
...Wouldn't know what they sound like, but I have my fun my way;0)

<<If you want credit for your predictive powers>>
... but I do not any credit, only NAV adds.

<<you'll need to state precisely what type of wealth will destroyed, where, and how>>
... see first paragraph above.

Chugs, Jay

CB, I see that I was challenged but I did not accept. The deflating/ bursting of the bubble has taken longer than many bears had expected ( myself included)but it has also been more damaging than most bulls have expected. As you are aware the stock market has failed to rally in response to aggressive rate cuts for the first time since the 30s. The decline in corporate profits was the worst since the 30s. The US markets last saw 3 consecutive yearly declines 1939-42 . The indices are lower now than when AG first cut. My outlook for 03 is US$ decline continues, Gold passes$400/oz with ease, US stock indices decline continues, the US economy continues to deteriorate. CNBS said Tice's Prudent Bear fund has the best performance of any diversified fund for the past 3 yrs. Mike

<The Bet. Not that any of the losers acknowledge it>

LOL, and who, prey tell, are the losers? Don't see any takers... and who would with those [lack of] odds?? Stupid bet.

So far as I remember almost any pessimist has been more right than you. Shit, anyone can whack 1/16 bids in 50% out of the money puts and be right for quite a while! :)
