Housing and fuel prices are major costs to many people. IF there wasn't inflation, then the cyclic highs of these two goods would not be occurring right now.

Yes there are problems with the socialism in Europe, the main one being the lack of incentive to work. A good portion of my ex-classmates, now in their late twenties, are not working, are getting their housing paid for, and whilst not living a life of luxury, are certainly not uncomfortable. And noone is giving them a hard time about it.

And I am comfortable with the fuel prices I pay for my 3.2 litre car. The UK tax on petrol is higher than 64%. We pay about $8 per gallon. I wouldn't like to see it dropped because the roads are crowded enough already. We have special economic problems here due to the amount of people living on a small island. The tax on fuel reflects that problem.
