Your dinner scenario is a well-known one. On taxes, no one likes them but especially with a big-spending Bush government if we stop taking $$ in we're like the family that puts everything on credit cards. We just mortgage the future. That said, we have to balance paying for critical services and balancing budgets (at least soon) with giving the people who actually go out and spend their money a refund. The problem with the rich is they dont spend it. The middle-class will spend it, help keep unemployment from growing (retailers will start laying off now otherwise) and keep industry humming (at least not staggering to a halt). The real answers lie in getting off the war and oil based Bush economy back into making products that dont kill and can be sold to the world. American is the leader of the world. 9-11 revenge is fine and I'm for dealing with terrorists with extreme prejudice, but Bush has put himself in a position where he needs to start wars to get re-elected. And it stinks. PS - Watch for Bush to create jobs by opening up the wildnerness for plundering and despoiling. His only jobs program except the military.

If it was paid the way we pay our taxes, the first four men would pay nothing

As per this analogy, I'd be curious to know how many of these four "men" are corporations.
