Ryder Collaborates with Applied Materials to Streamline Supply Chain Logistics

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 2003--Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE:R - News), a global leader in supply chain and transportation management solutions, is collaborating with Applied Materials, Inc. to streamline Applied Materials' supply chain management operations in Austin, Texas. Applied Materials is the world's largest producer of wafer fabrication systems and services to the worldwide semiconductor industry.
"Working with Ryder as a third-party logistics provider has enabled us to optimize our Austin materials management operation, simplifying the process while improving cycle times on critical time-sensitive parts," said Joseph R. Bronson, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Applied Materials. "Outsourcing this responsibility to Ryder also allows us greater flexibility to align our operations with the changing requirements of our customers."

Ryder's responsibilities include coordination and pick-up of required components from suppliers, as well as warehousing and delivery of cleanroom-certified products directly into the air-lock of Applied Materials' cleanroom manufacturing facilities. Ryder also is responsible for management of Applied Materials' 288,000-square foot parts staging facility with its inventory of over 40,000 parts.
