LOL! I read the same a while back.

One thing to remember is that the candidates are selected by the way the system is set up, so it doesn't matter who is elected. The elections at the highest levels are purely ceremonial. They are selected and beholden to the circular funding-media-lobbyist-gov't-funding round-robin, where you raise $$ from lobbyists to pay media, and then must continue to please these constitutencies to get reelected, even if contrary to the voters' interests.

The solution is CSPAN-type free political debate channels. Future broadband internet capabilities can make a streaming media channel at trivial cost available for each political leader to make their case. Most would be crap, but following someone around like Nader, McCain, Ron Paul etc. would be eye-opening, and rebut the "disinfotainment" that fills 99% of the media. The trick will be to get real debate among all the top candidates, like in multiparty countries.

Since Limbaugh types never debate any knowledgeable opponents, the equivilent would be leadership channels, and discussion channels springing up to provide debate to counter bogus claims, in spite of the refusal of the proponent to appear.
