thanks for the reference. John
reminds of the experience in fact one... no oil shortage in U.S. ..I was running a light products terminal in Rhode Island.. I looked out the office window and there was a camera man and one of the nightly newsperson at the truck loading rack.... I went down and couldn't figure how they got near the loading rack.. The loading rack is a 1/2 mile inside a refinery... When I got to the person he flashed a mike in my face and asked why we had so many tankers sitting off Narragansette Bay and not unloading them so people could get gas... Didn't we hold the gas off the market so the big oil companies could make more money.... Then he shut off the camera.. I told him none of that was true... He said " I don't care it was for the evening news"... and left.
A week later a senator of Rhode Island called me and told me to deliver gas to a certain account or he would have me fired... We had the account shut off as they had used their allotment for the week.. I did not make the delivery and reported the call to corporate.

I believe you will find this site interesting.. It is exxonmobil exploration and production results for the last few years.. It's deep water activity is unbelieveable.. It has more than replaced all of its reserves , while maintaining growth over the last twenty or so years... It's deep water activity is the size of the country of France.

www2.exxonmobil.com

... As for U.S. I do not know why we have to be independent of gasoline etc...

Now there are also fields in the U. S. that are shut out because of politics.. Florida for one.. the Carolinas for another,, Calf. for one more.. and also I believe the state Cheney lives in... These are all area were we know of proven reserves but not available as the states want to burn someone else's gas not their own..

I posted on another site a few months back Exxonmobil just completed/planned to complete the largest off shore platform in the world for drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.. The statistics of number of wells and expected crude from this one working platform was enlightening

Now the above is for Exxonmobil.... Think about the reserves, sites , etc for British Pet. and Shell and Total, and Russia.. In the meantime as before we continue to cut down on our requirements for petrol. New energy will come along and it will be cheaper..

I will read more from this writer but first glance I think he is an alarmist.
