why?

the payroll taxes go into two specific funds (social security and medicare) for specific purposes. Social security is then "loaned" to the treasury. I assume medicare is used to pay the medical.

Yes.. I know.. But I was concentrating on income tax alone.. I think the very idea of an income tax is immoral. It's no ones business but my own what I make.
