Dear Jake and AS: I think it safe to say he was fortunate enough to preside over the greatest economy in history, but to say he brought it is extremely naive and indicative of not understanding the economic forces in our country.
The groundwork was laid in the ending of the Cold War. At that time technology was REFOCUSED on commerical rather then Military arena. America went from being BEHIND in our worker productivity to LEADING THE WORLD. At that same time the fear of Y2K raised its ugly head and everyone went BERSERK (yeah, myself included). The Fed FILLED OUR ECONOMY with MONEY (Dollars floating everywhere) EVERYONE upgraded their computer equipment, doubled up on their inventories, squirred $$ away in their mattresses (dont tell me you didnt, I KNOW you did), stocked food in their larder, etc etc. So, we ended up with an excess of inventory, excess of technolgy, excess of $$. Now we have to work all that shit off. Example I am JUST NOW finishing up all the Y2k Food we had stored and thats after giving a lot away. I have read that inventories are now getting well in hand, I dont know that status of MONEY but I presume the FED tightened liquidity to bleed it off and we are now about to have to start rebuilding technology. So, I THINK we are rounding the corner now, IF we dont have SKYROCKETING fuel costs or a long drawn out war in Iraq I believe by the end of Bush's first term we OUGHT to be back to normal. Thats not to say we will be the GOGO ERA of Clintons age but maybe something akin to the early to mid 90's. JDN
