I'm glad you asked me that. I probably wouldn't have looked into it if you hadn't.

Here's the figures I found:

From economagic 1982 GDP $13,036 Billion 2002 GDP $41,702 Billion(assuming Q4 will equal Q3)

2002 GDP is 3.198 times 1982 GDP

PS Even if you add a couple hundred billion to 4Q02 GDP the ratio of debt/GDP still remains above 15%.

1982 Debt $1,197 Billion 2002 Debt $6,383 Billion

2002 debt is 5.33 times 1982 debt

debt/GDP ratio went from 9.18% at end of 1982 to 15.3% at end of 2002.

Feel free to correct my numbers if I am wrong.
