<Duh.. It's called paying one's old way...Self respect is hard to come by without it.>

That's the stupidest thing I ever heard... you dont think hard working folks can muster self respect without filling out a bunch of papers and paying almost zilch to the government? You think everyone identifies with the government? Which one? I'll take the guy helping out down at the shelter over the moron sitting in front of the TV dithering over what Bush is going to do next ANY DAY. Give credit where credit is due.

<Making 50K and accepting all that the country offers but contributing nothing would spell leach, bloodsucker, parisite etc.Everyone who found him/herself in sucha situation would feel it.>

What, 50K with a family of 4 and pay no tax is leach??? Wake up dude. More leach than making 3 million and paying $1 million?

<I suppose you think that those paying and those not paying would have (or should have) the same interest in how our government spends it's money .. I don't.>

Personally I don't give a rats ass what they do with it... you can worry all you want, I've got more important things to do, like live. When they stray too far one way or another I'll get involved, untill then you keep me up on what's happening on CNBC ok?

<I have no qualms about progressive taxes. But everyone should have a stake in government.>

A stake??? What, they got stock outstanding? Everyone doesn't pay taxes now... why do you think this is something new and terrible?

I like to think that most welfare recipients today would like to get off the dole and experience the self respect that comes with paying one's own way.

Yeah I can concur with this part. Natives on reservations is probably the extreme example. People in most cases have to have lost self respect to want to live that way....

I favour a consumption tax and not a 'free' ride for anyone (well some but very few exceptions)....

EDIT: Actually in Canada you don't need to leave a major city like Toronto for examples..
